Cunim'ihgs, £1 14s Id, costs 6s : S. Anderson v. A. S. Sugden, £3 10s, costs 6s,^solicitor (Mr White) 5s ; same v. D. Heffenian, 4s 6d, costs Bs. Two cases were adjourned, as the amounts were beyond the jurisdiction of the justices. There were 49 cases set down for the day, but they were reduced by settlements to the dozen above mentioned. pawnbroker's license. M. Salek applied for and was granted renewal of his pawnbroker's license. TAKING EVIDENCa. Jacob Weber, of Grey mouth, tailor, v. Oswald James Rice, of Oamaru, confectioner, claim £20 11s 6d, clothing supplied, counter claim £32 Bs, moneys paid by defendant on plaintiff's account aud at his request. Mr Hay for plaintiff, Mr Raymond for defendant. This case was called for the purpose of taking the evidence of defendant for transmission to Greymouth. Mr Raymond examined defendant, and chiefly as to the counter claim, andfrom his evidence it appeared that he was m Greymouth from 1890 to 1894, and was agent there for the Dresden Piano Company. He sold a piano to plaintiff on terras, and agreed to get from plaintiff all the clothing he needed, and to credit the cost against the piano instalments. He paid £32 88 on the piano for plaintiff. Mr Hay cross-examined.
