FOOTBALL.
A well attended tneeting of those inteested m the formation of a branch of he Referees' Association m connection vith the South Canterbury Rugby Union vas held last evening at the Ship Hotel . Mie meeting was unanimous m the •pinion that such a branch is necessary v this district, and it was decided to equisition the Rugby Union to tender ts support to the movement. Although he ISew Zealand Referee's' Association vaß only inaugurated at the commencenent of last season, branches were sucsessfully formed m nearly every football sentre, and there is no doubt that had ,he local enthusiasts moved m this natter twelve months ago, many of last season's difficulties would have been Lvoided. The annual meeting of the iugby Union has been called for next Cuesday evening, 26th inst., when the ibove recommendation will no doubt be ;arried out.
