STRANGE AND SUDDEN DEATHS.
—^ ■ The body of a man, name unknown, was found at 8 o'clock on Sunday evening 1 rieav the roadside, Waihao,. about 12 miles from Waimate. . The body ;was taken to Waimate hospital where it was examined by Dr Barclay who found that the left leg was badly broken and the right collar bone smashed. Nothing has so far been ascertained to"th'rbw ;au'y light on the case. <The :! deceased is supposed to be an Irishman, aged between 50 and 60. The. deceased has brown hair turning grey, ,with full whiskers and moustache, brown turning to grey. His clothing consists of dark tweed coat, white moleskin trousers (recently washed), soft felt hat, lace-up boots (nearly new), white flannel undershirt and cheek Crimean outer-shirt, and leather belt round the waist. The man when at Waihao was strange m his behaviour. From the cleanly condition of the clothing the man is supposed to have been recently discharged from a „ hospital ov other institution. ' An elderly man named Charles Handersen, who for the last 18 months has been employed; as a cook at" the Arowhenua homestead, was found lying m the horse paddock near the men's lrat on Sunday evening m a condition of collape. He" was removed to the hut and Dr Hayes summoned. He rendered such assistance as was possible, but the man died a few hours / afterwards. Handersen was last seen at about 4 o'clock on Saturday afternoon when it. ' -was understobdlie was going to Temuka. It is beljleved that he iiiiist have had a fit and lay exposed from shortly after that time until when he was found. He was married ; his wife is said to be a confirmed invalid." An inquest was to have been held at the Courthouse, Temuka, yesterday. ■ : -
