Per Electric Telegraph— Copyright. Per Prbßs Association. Sydney, January 14. The balloting m connection with the proposed strike of miners at Newcastle has been completed. The figures show that 1874 men voted m favour of a strike being declared, and 1216 against a strike. As the requisite two-thirds majority was not obtained there will be no general strike. The difficulty at the Hetton colliery has been settled and a threatened strike avoided. Newcastle, January 14. The decision of the delegate board that the lodges having disputes with the companies with regard to the reduction ! in,the hewing rate should endeavour to settle the matter locally not giving unmixed satisfaction, the miners engaged m both the Seahana and West Wallsend collieries have rejected the board's resolu- 1 tion, the speakers declaring that if it was endorsed by the district it would mean the breakup of the association as the men would decline to subscribe if they had to fight their own battles. The Seahani miners have notified the management that they are prepared to return to work, but the manager declined to recognise the lodge, and said that they could apply individually. The Wallsend have reduced the selling price of coal to 7s 6d m consequence of the strike ballot of the various miners resulting m the withdrawal of the demand for an advance m the hewing rate. ,

Hokianga, the Government having found iY em work at road-forming, etc., m the north of Auckland on the co-operative system. They have been out of work x for a considerable time. \
