AKOWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The Arowhenua Town. Board met on Wednesday. Present : Messrs Ashwell, (chairman) Frew, Can*, Russell and Brown. Correspondence from the land office re thirds was read. The overseer reported On the repairs done to the offices ; that no tenders had been received for works prepared ; that Cain's contract, m Rayner Street was unfinished tlioiigh the contract time had elapsed ; that hehad attended to damage m Aekroyd's bridge, and advertised 'a reward for conviction of persons damaging notice boards : and that the present was a good time for clearing gorse, broom, etc., froni the roads. The Board decided that notice shall be giverf requiring "gbrse to be cleared off the roads forthwith. J. Cain appplied for and was allowed an extension of seven days m which to complete his contract. It was agreed to leave the contracts open for tender till next meeting. The fee for dbg registration was fixed at 10s, and Mr Pilbrow was appointed registrar. . A long discussion took 1 place on the half-holiday question, the working of some clauses of the Act giving trouble. The chairman was appointed delegate to confer- with the delegate of the Temuka Town Board on the subject. The Jatter Mr Mason, waited on the Board and discussed the subject with them. In Temuka the majority were m favour of Thursday, the present half-holiday, and Mr Mason pointed out that those who prefer Saturday can close on that day. The two delegates, Messrs Mason and Ashwell, afterwards met and the Thursday half-holiday was adopted for the combined district of Temuka and Arowhenua.
