The Japanese captured the entire effective Btaff of the Chinese troops, including the commander Fonk Wai, and four generals. Great piles of rifles and a large quantity of warlike stores were also taken. The Japanese are arranging to ship 14,000 prisoners taken m the recent battle to Japan. Several Chinese towns are showing signs of panic, aB a Japanese invasion is feared. On the news of the victory reaching Tokio there waß great rejoioing, and bells were set ringing and salutes fired. A strong patrol is searching the field of battle for Chinese officers who are alleged to have been secreted by Coreane. It is doubted whether the Japanese will engage m a war with tho Coreaoa before the winter. Japanese spies have for some considerable swarmed m the arsenal, forts, and ompa m Pekin and the provinces, and the Chinese are dealing severely with these apies when captured, whether Japanese or Chinese, Received 2.30 p.m., September 19th. The Japanese are advancing on Moukden. The reported suicide of Li Huag Chang is not true. Received 0.45 a.m., September 20th. eptember 19. Upon receipt of the news of the Chinese defeat at Pekin there was a great outcry against Li Hung Chang, who was deprived by the Emperor of his last Peacock's Feather.
