SIR MATTHEW DAVIES.
Albany, July 10. Sir Matthew Davies, who has arrived* here en route to Melbourne, is far from well. He says he never had any intention of going beyond Colombo, and is quite prepared to meet the charge on which he stands committed for trial. He contends that if the Mercantile Bank directors are prosecuted there should be a prosecution of the directors of all the suspended banks. (Received 8 p.m., July 10th.) THE HAUROTO. Sydnby, July 10. Arrived — Hauroto, from Wellington. THE MONOWAI. Sailed — Monowai, for Auckland. THE MURDER BY LARRIKINS. The larrikin gang, arrested for the murder of the man Pert, who was kicked to death, have been committed for trial on the verdict of the Coroner's jury.
