COUNTY REVENUE.
(By Telesbaph.) WELLINGTON, Jraa 15. The representatives of tho goldfleld counties who hove been meeting here to discuss tho financial position of thoae districts, finished their proceedings this morning by passing a resolution to tho effect that tho wholo of the counties m tho colony should be invitod to a general conference m Wellington noxfc year, one weak before Parliament opens, with a view -to hsving the Counties Aot amendedA copy of tho proceedings will bo sont to oyery counly. A deputation o£ go'dGslds members ond deleeatO3 from County Councils waited on the Government this afternoon, and brought undor their notice a number of resolutions reeeullj pae3ed by tho conference of the councils. Tho delegates pointed out to the Government that owing to tho abolition of the gold duty and repeal of tho Crown Land Bating Act many of tho County Councila on tho West Coast and m Otago would be unable to carry on, unless assJ3ied by the Government, either inrelioving them from maintaining roada, or by grants from the Treasury. Mr Bsllance stud that he would give no assurance thefc tho roads would be taken over or grants made, and he lad the deputation to understand that they must look to some other means for revenue. The matter would, however, ha?a tho aerious attention of the Government.
