ATTEMPT TO BURN A HOTEL.

Melbourne, Oct. 3. Four deliberate attempts were made yesterday to burn down the Palace Hotel. A commercial traveller named Kimber was arrested for being illegally on the premises despite a statement that the man entered the building, where he was found in an intoxicated state. The magistrate sentenced him to a year's imprisonment. Notice of appeal was given. (Eeoeivoa 1 p.m., Oct. 3rd.) THE AOS.ANGI. Hobabt, October 3. The Now Zealand Shipping Company's steamer Aorangi arrived at 7 o'clock last night and was to Bail for New Zealand at 6 o'clock this morning.
