ADDINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.

CHEISTCHURCH. Angust 27. The sale was well attended to-day, and though there was a general enquiryi.'as to what was about to take place m the maritime world, business proceeded much the same as usual. SHEEP. With the exception of a grand line of merino wethers from Glenmark, the »ale of store sheep was limited to a few odd lines of merino ewes, said to be m lamb, which realised up to 7s 9d. The Glentnark wethers being immense sheep fetched from S3 4d to 8s 9d. A few odd line 3of thi3 season's lambs wero sold at prices varying from 8s to l-ss. In fat sheep there were about G4OO entered, of which some very good crossbred wether 3 broueht up to 21s, while several well'known breeders of merinos sent lines of wether 3, which reached from 16s 6d to ISs ; this latter price was procured for a very good line from the Horsley Downs. The presence of a buyer from the West Coast stimulated business, and the drop which would have been noticeable was somewhat averted by his pnrchoses. In all classes where inferior quality predominated a drop of from I3 to la Gd a head existed, but all linc3 were sold. CATTLE. The smallest entry of fat cattle for many months, only 73 head, was yarded, and none of these were of any special quality, but the demand wa3 so keen tbat the prices were exceptionally gond, up to 27s per lOOlbs being obtained for beef that could not be classed as prime. In store cattle, with the exception of a line of culled 2-year-old heifers and steers from Cheviot, which fetched from 183 to £3, the sale was limited. Dairy cows fetched good prices. Pioa. There was only a small entry. Prices were firmer, averaging about 3id per lb. BURNSIDE MARKETS. DUNEDIN. August 27. FAT CATTLE. 145 head were yarded, some North Island and a ia-rr other pens. Prime commanded fair competition, and thero was a Blight improvement m prices. Best bullocks J69 to JSll 7s Cd, ordinary £7 to £8 10s, light £i to JCG 10s, best cows £G to £8. ordinary £i 10s to £510s, light and inferior £1 10s to £3 103. FAT SHEEP. 3136 wero penned. Values all round showed a decline of, say for best wethers, Is per head, second class 2s. One half of those forwarded wero about the best seen this season. Prime crossbred wethers heavy 18s 6d to 21a Gi, ordinary lGs to 18s, light 13s to 15s, prime owes 163 to 183, ordinory 14s to 15s, light lls to 13s Gd. GRAIN. Wheat—Fair demand for all descriptions. Tho market jnstnow is bare of prime, and both millers and shippers are showing a disposition to operate freely m the next best quality offering. Prices, though not perhaps any highor, are much firmer, and sales of such quality all the moro easily effected. Prime milling velvet and Tuscan 3s 6d to 3s Bd, medium to good 3h 3d to 3s sd, good rod wheat 3s 31 to 3s Si, inferior to medium scarce 2s lOd to 3a 2d, ex Btore (socks weighed m). Oats—A moderatoly fair demand, principally for oxport, but pnrchasers are not disposed to operato at any advanco on lato rates. A difficulty m tho way is tho want of tonnage, which is seriously crippling basinesn, buyors being afraid to operate owing to tho uncertainty of getting their pnrchases shipped witbin a reasonable time. For boat feed and milling Is 3Jd to Is 41d, medium to good Is 3d to Is 3Jd, inferior and musty Is to Is 2Vd, ex store (sacks extra). Barley—ls m no demand of any consequence and very littlo prime, if any, if offering. Odd lots are occasionally disposed of for feed at from la Gd to Is 9d, best malting (nominal) 2a Gd to 2a 9d, medium 2s 3d to 2s Cd, ox store.
