THE DUNEDIN PRESBYTERY.
CHABSE AGAINST A lIIEISTEB. (By Telegraph.) DUKEDIN, June 4. The presbytery has entered on what appeWß to be a heresy hunt directed against the Ker. Mr Gibb, pastor of First Church, by Mr A. C. Begg. There was a long discussion but no definite action was taken. Later. At the meeting of tho Dunedin Presbytery Mr A. C. Begg made complaint ngninst the Bey. J. Gibb to the effect that on Sabbath, the 25th Muy, at the morning service of the First Church congregation, tho Eev. James Gibb m the course of his sermon made uso of language to the effect that he did not agree with tha statement of the doctrine of election as set forth m tho standards of the Church ; that the wcrds were an emphatic declaration from the pulpit of tho falsity of one of the cardinal doctrines of Scripture and of the Presbyterian Church ; and that such n statement made m such circumstances was calculated to unsettle the minds of the member! and adherents of the congregation, and generally to throw doubt upon the doctrines of the Church. After a long discussion the proceedings were adjourned till the lbtu in«t.
