PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH, GERJLDINE. .

Tho first" of a proposed series of winter entertainments waa given ,m tha Primitive MethodUt Church at Geraldine, on Monday evening last, tlioro being a fair attendance. The Rev. Q. Clement, pastor of tho ohurch, presided, and tho proceedings commenced with tbo tinging of a hymn and with prayer. ' Mr Clement, m hia opening address, urged the choir to keep up tho religious tone of their entertainments which co etrongly marked their character during last winter, and which lod to their being so successful. Tho following programme was then gone through, Miss Andrews accompanying tho singers on tho organ : — " Whan the harvest is past," by tho choir; " Jojus knows my sorrow," duet by Miss Maslin and Miss Eskett ; "Puss under the rod," solo by Mr B. Logan ; dissertation on " Roligious crumbles," reading by Mr O. E. Sherratt ; "The children's jubilee," sung by several littlegirls placed on raised seats on the platform, and all d ret sod m white, with blue and other coloured ecitrcs, each holding bouquets of flowers, and waving them to the right and left keeping time with the tuno. This waa quite a. novel idea m the district, brought from eeeing a children's concert held m the recent Exhibition m Dunedin. Miss Eskott led tbe children, and judging from tbe applause of the audience at the conclusion of the piece, she must havo felt rewarded for her pains and the anxiety experienced m regard to its success on its introduction to a Geroldiuo audience. " Tho village choir," recitation by Master Willie Maslin, followed. This was a parody on the well known " Charge of the Light Brigade," and was received with considerable applause. The choir sang " Tho three calls." 9 be quariotte " Welcome wanderer " was sung by Mm Maslin, Mifs Eekelt, Messrs C. E. Shorratt, anil E. Logan, Tho children before referred to sang | " Hosannn," with a similar fljral accompaniment Mi?s Andrews sang " The vesper hymn," and tbo choir " The Groat Doliverer." During a fhort interval refreshments wero handed round by tho ladies. Tho second part of tbe entertainment commenced with lho choir rendering Sanke} 'a hymn "Seeking for mo." Miss Logan and Miss Andrews sing tho duct " Liko music on tho ear." A oplo, " Consolation," was beautifully rendered, and received prolongod applause. Miss' Kvery gave a recitation " On, ono and all.' Miss Eskelt gave a recitation "Tbo Inet lvjmn ; " the choir sang " Victory," and Mrs t/ogun gave a rcoilulioa, " Maiy Queen of Seals." Tho quartette " Fisher folk " waa rendered by Mrs Lognn, Mias Andrews, Mr 0. E. Bhorratt, and anothVr gentleman Tho children Bang " Our Uoworc," with bouquet accompaniment, and the choir followed with " Bringing m lho sheaves." Tho übuol votes of thanks Wore passed to tholadieaand others who had contributed m rendering the entertainment such a success. The singing of ' Christiana good-night" and the Benediction by tho choir brought tho proceedings to a close, after lho chairmnn had announcod that a service of song would be gircn by the oboir at an early dale.
