CONCERT AT GERALDINE.

A very successful concert of Irish and other songs was held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Geraldine, on Friday evening in aid of the funds of the Ueraldine schools. The ball was filled to overflowing and the audience nppenred to enjoy themselves thoroughly. Mr W. S. Mashn, chairman of the school committee, occupied the chair, and introduced the respective singers and performers. The concert was opened hv a pianoforte duet played in finished style ' by the Misses Fish. "By Killarney's lakes and fells " was rendered so well by Miss Miller that she had to respond to a most hearty recall, when she gare " Rothesay Bay." In the second part of the programme Miss Miller sang " Eileen AUnnah" this item certainly being the gem of the eve' ing. Mis9 Miller bowed her acknowledgments of the applause bestowed Miss Menzies was successful with " The dear little shamrock, ' and was awarded an encore Ihe same lady afterwards sang " The Kerry Dance with good effect. " I'erm'itt Asthore" by Miss Klteo Dean was a pleasing item, and Miss Dunl p'voice was beard 'o advantage in " "Ti« the Last Rote of Summer," and being awarded & most uproarious encore responded with "Kate O'Shane." Miss Dunlop afterwards gang " Come back to Erin " aad was again well applauded. Miss Dean sang very iweetly " The Harp that once through Tara's Halls," and later on " The Minstrel Boy," both of which songs were well received, as also were " O, Erin, my Country," and " I et Erin remember the days of old," by Mrs Greaves. The Misses Ellen and Kmily Dean plaTed"The Last Rose of >ummer," with variations, as the overture to the second part To turn to the gentlemen, the first to appear was Mr Herdman, who sa' g "Kathleen Mavournoen " and " Farewell to Stirling." Mr Covsntry's comic songs proved very acceptable. Ii the first part he sang " What a blessing," and in the second " Luter on," with "The new fashioned boy about town" as an encore. For the comio song "In the days of auld lang syne," Mr Maquo Puero (Mr R. Morrison) had to respond with " I can't make up my mind." Mr George Kraus also sang a character song " Dearly Beloved Brethren." " Jack's Yarn," by Mr Logan, was much appreciated. Mr J Aitken's fine voice was much missed, that gentleman being unable to appear through indisposition. The accompanists to the vocalists were Miss Alice Fish, Miss R.anH E. Dean, and Mr Greaves. Ihe concert was brought to an end by the ringing of the National Anthem. The committee are to be complimented on the successful issue of the affair. We must not forget to mention that the Voluntees Band plaved several selections outride the hall before the concert commenced.
