HARBOUR BOARD ELECTION.
The poll for the election of a member of tho Tininru Harbour Bonrd, to ropresont the Borough of Timaru, was bold at tho Town Hall ycßtorday- Thoro wentwo candidates Mr Jnmcm Bnico, and Mr John Shpoton Gibson. Tho eloctinn did not appear to oxcite any great amount of interest. The polling resulted as follows : — Jamos Bruco ... ... 97 John Shenton Gibson ... 140 A numbor of burgesses wrsro prosont at tho declaration of tho poll, which w«s m:id.j by tho Returning Ollioor, at 0.30 p.m. Mr W. Hull Jones propound n vote of thanks to tho Returning Officer for the mannor in which he had conduotod the olection. Mr Jnmes Bruco said he had much pleasure in seconding tho motion, nnd sincerely thanked the burgesses who had voted for him. Ho rpgrottod that ho had bi>on too busy to attond to tho election by canvassing thoroughly for support. Ho was sure that if he had
done so Ihe result of the poll would have been different. At some future time he Bhould have much pleasure in again trying for a seat on the Board. The Returning Officer returned thanks for the confidence reposed in him by the burgesses, and assured those present that he should as heretofore fulfil to the beat of his ability the duties of any municipal trust with which he was honoured.
