JUBILEE POEM.
The following is tho poem which took the guinea prize to which we alluded the other day : — To Heu Geacious Majesty thb Queen. Jubilee Tear, 1887. Songs haro been sung and lyrics penned By abler hands than mine ; From Northern seas on ocean breeze They reach our Southern clime. Canada, India, both combine To sing her praise to-day ; New Zealand still with right good-will Joins m the votive lay. From bush-clad hills and mountain peaks Kings forth tho glad refrain, Till river beds and rocky creeks Be-echo it again. The tattooed chieftain tells his tribe Of fifty years ago, Ere yet tho pakeha trod the land Their first and bitter foe. How as tho years rolled quickly by Tho foo became their friend : Taught them to know his God and Queen, Her realm and crown defend. Britain nnd Maori brothers now Join m glad song to thee ; " God Save the Queen " is echoed back O'er continent and aea. Loyalist. June 16th, 1887.
