REVENUE RETURNS.

Tho Customs revenue returns of the colony for this last month aro now complete with the exequion of small receipts from Mongoiuu'gand Iviipara, aad Pfttea, and these aro not at all likely to swoll tho total amount. Last mouth's returns show lilo4,Sjo, which is a decrease of nearly L10,00l) over the preceding month, and LGOOO below that of the corresponding month of last year. Tho principal falling off appears to bo at Auckland and Wellington, while Canterbury has improved and Otago remains about an average. The following figures will show the amounts collected at the four principal ports in the colony for October, 188G : Auckland, 1/20,590; Wellington, L18,555; Lyttleton, L19.052 ; Duuedin, L2G.021. Total for the colony (exclusive of threo returns yet to come)Llo4,Bso. Sept., 1880 : Auckland, L27.5M ; Wellinttir, L21.00G; Lyttelton, L11.135; Dunedin, L28,330. Total for the colony, L114,222. October 1885 : Auckland, L21,008 ; Wellington, L23,998; Lyttelton, LIG,CBS ; Dunedin, L27,210. Total for the colony, L110.456. For the seven months of the financial year which have passed, the Customs revenue falls short of the Colonial Treasurer's estimate for that period by about L70,000. The beer tax collected last month, waa L4250, being L5OO more than for the preceding month, and a decrease of L4OO compared with that of the corresponding month of last year. Tho beer duty collocted in the colony for the Beven montha of the financial year amounts lo L27.085, which is L4998 below Sir Juliua Yogel'^ estimate for the sumo poriud.
