THE CABLE TARIFF.

0 . , .. SABGOOD'S IDEA. (By Telegraph.) DnsßDiN, Oct. 21. Colonel Sargood, of Melbourne, met the Chamber of Commerce to-day to discuss tho question of the cable tariff. Colonel Sargood adduced a number of statistics showing the subsidies paid on the Hew Zealand and Port Darwin cables. He pointed out that if all tho subsidies were lumped together, and each colony paid according to its population, New Zealand's share would bo £8188. New Zealand would either have to pay a subsidy or submit to an increased tariff. After some discussion the meeting broke up without passing a resolution.
