An unoccupied house at Paumure, tho property of Mr Finnorty, of Matatuna, was burned down. It wdb insured for £125 m the New Zealand Insurance Company. The Lumpers Union ia a thing of the past. j Work was resumed this morning by nearly the same as tliofe who struck work last week. Wellington, Oct. 11. Mr Ballance left for Masterton this morning. Ho will be received hv the members for the district nnd other residents and representatives of the 3mall Farm Association, and banquetted to-night. The steamer Manapouri, which arrived from the north yesterday, reports sighting a floating wreck m Palliser Bay, whi h is believed to bo tho hull of the ketch Janet, wrecked at Cape Campbell. The Eteamor Mana went to day to search for the derelict, but had to return owing to tho strong southerly wind at sen. DUNBDIN, Oct. 11. Mrs Andrew Morcor, one of the oldest identities, is dead.
