PRESENTATION.

A very pleasing ceremony wns performed yesterday afternoon, and ono that will long remain m tho memory of those who took part m it. Having beard that the Rev. Isaac Zachariah was to return home to Christelmi'bh by tho up express, the members of tho Jewish persuasion, resident m Tinrnru, determined that they would not let him depart without first presenting him wilh n memento as a mark of the esteem and respect m which he was held by nil, and also for his kindness m conducting tho services m connection with the Jowish Day of Atonement m the Timaru Synagogue on Friday and Saturday last. They accordingly prepared on address and collected a purse of sovereigns for the purpose. The arrangements for the presentation though hurriedly got up, were well carried out, and shortly before the express left a largo number of gentlpmen congregated at the Stationmaster's office to bear testimony to their esteom for the rev. gentleman. The address, which was worded as follows, was read by Mr Jacob Lovien : — "To the Rev. Isaac Zachariah, Jewish Ministor, Christchurch. . " On behalf of the members of the Timaru Jewish congregation we beg to tender you our heartfelt thanks for your kindness m coming to officiate for us at tho Now Year and Day of Atonoment, and respectfully request you to accept tho accompanying purse of sovereigns as a small recognition of tho esteem and respect m which we, ono and all, hold you. Trusting Hint you and your family may live long, and that we may for many years receive the benefit o£ your spiritual instruction, (signed) "Moss Jonas, President. "D. Zandeb, Treasurer. " J Livien, Hon. Secretary." Mr Jonas then presented the rev. gentleman with a purse of sovereigns, and also proposed the health of Mrs Zachariah. Speeches were made by several other gentlemen, including one by Mr R. Turnbull, M.H.R. The Rev. Mr Zichariah feelingly responded, and the pleasiug reunion was then brought to a closo.
