DUNEDIN.

Jnly 28. MrD. Stronaoh reports for the week ended to-day as follows :— I'AT CATTLE. 266 head were yarded at Burnside to-day for the week's supply. About one-half of these wore light and m medium condition, and the balance good to pritno quality. Owing to some of tho largest bnyors m tho trado being snpplied from private purchases made outside, this number (2iiG) wa3 largely m excess of requirements. Consequently, bidding wa3 languid, and althongh ono or two pens of heavy weights brought prices eqnal to last week's, on the wbolo the market wa3 dull, values receding by 153 to 20d per head, particularly on medium qnality. Best bnllocks £9 to .£lO 10s (ono pen ill 53), medium £$ 10a to .£8 10s, light JJ3 15s to £6, cows m proportion. PAT SHEEP. 2915 wero penned. Of those, 560 were morino wothora, somo of which wero rather low m condition. Tho greater portion, however, being fair to good, and 2355 were cro3sbreda, two-thirds of which woro good to prime quality, tho balanoo being only about jj&tf fat. Tuo in-ovious two or three weeks'

markets being so heavily Btockod, tho roquiroments of tho trado to-day wero limited, and there being no buyers of sheep for froozmg, competition was again dull, and a dragging sale ensnod, resulting m prices not reaching last week's by Is 6d to 2a per head. Boat crossbred wethers brought 10s to 12s Gd, ordinary 83 to 9s 6d, best do ewes 9s to 12s, ordinary 5s 9d to 8s Cd, merino wethers 4s 9d to Bs. OKAIN. Wheat. — A moderato business ha 3 been i—oaing, bnt tho demand ia limited aud very irregular, bnyers purchasing as sparingly as they possibly can. Tho small lota sold continue to realise prices quoted last week, although it would be still difficult to placo any very largo lots at these figures. Tusoan and red straw m particular are m short supply, and m demand, while stocks of white velvet aro not so low. Holders of the fow lots still unsold continue firm, and judging by tho tono of tho reports of the state of tho markets north, their position appears to bo good. We quote prime milling velvot and tnscan 4a 8d to 4s 9d, medium 4s 5d to 4s 7d, best red straw 4s Gd to 4s Bd, medium 4s 2d to 4s sd, inferior and whole fowl feed 3s 6d to 4s Id (ex store, bags weighed m). Oats. — Tliero is considerable inquiry, and largo ordors conld have been put m hand for shipment, intercolonial as well as coastwise, bnt as onr prices aro still beyond buyers* limits, tho business passing is only moderato. A fair local domand is experienced both for feed and milling quotations. A fow lots are also occasionally disposed of for seed, which help to diminish stocks considerably. Although there is no improvement m values, the market continues firm. Most owners still prefer to hold, and tho inferonoo to be drawn from rjports of the position of tho Australian markets is that a considerable portion of our supplies will bo required there. Wo quote inferior and discoloured at from 2s to 2s Id, modium feed 2s 2d to 2a 2Jd, short bright food 2s 3d to 2a 4d, stout milling are held for 2s 5d to 2s Gd, long Tartars from 2s 7d to 2a 9d. but m small demand (ox store, bags woighed m). Barloy. — Wo have no alteration to note. Thero 13 some slight inquiry for maltiDg, bnt prices asked by holders of snitable samples being rather above buyers' ideas of values, business is slow. One or two malsters, who m provious seasons bought largely for export, finding tho business unprofitable caased the industry, consequently the demand has been less and tho result lower prices. Stocks hero, however, are very light, and tho quality indifforont. Wo qnoto prime malting 3s to 33 Id, medium 2s 9d to 2s lid, feed and milling 2s 3d to 2a 8d ex storo, bags weighed m.
