MACKENZIE COUNTY COUNCIL.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mackenzie County Council was held at the Council Offico Burkc'a Pass on Monday, the 3rd May. MEJIBEES PRESENT. Messrs J. McGregor (chairman), A. Cowan, James Milne, and F. R. Gillingham. LEAVE OP ABSENCE. letters were received from Messrs Melville Gray and Jas. Duncan, asking for leave of ftbsenco for this meeting. — Granted, MISCELLANEOUS. Tho Clerk and Overseer's report was read and considered, and tho following refolution passed m connection with it : — Mr J. Kgans applied to have tho storm water turned off main road m the Fairlie Creek township. Consideration of the matter was deferred till next meeting. The Clerk was instructed to have a sale by public auction of horses, harness, eto., wbiob. had been used on tho Mount Cook Road. Burkes Pass pound reserve. — The lease of this rcservo falling m on tho 31et May the clerk was instructed to call for tenders for next meeting, the reserve to be leased for a term of four years, on condition that if it be required at any timo for public purposes, the lease be surrendered at three months' notice. COEBESPONDEKCE. ; From Captain J. H. Sutter stating that Dr , Ogeton, appointed health officer by the 2k£aC* i kenzic County Council, had accepted an appointment under the Otago University; but , that- Professor Ogston, of the Aberdeen University, had engaged a Dr Henry Angus for tho post, who might bo expected m New Zealand m a few months time. From Mr William Stronach, Ben Ohau station, stating that ho would be willing to pay his sharo of fencing rescrvo 183, situated at Pukaki Ferry, on condition that the cost of fencing did not exceed £40 per mile. Hesolved— That the clerk be instructed to reply that m tho council's opinion a good and sufficient fcuce could not be erected for the money, and that the usual notices be served on Mr Stronach, under the Fencing Act, and the work Le pioceeded with. From Mr Brooke, chemist, Eaiapoi, offering to supply poisoned grain to the council for the purpose of destroying sparrows. From Mr Tosswill, solicitor, Timaru re rote collection. . From Mr B. B. Thomson of Glentanner Station, giving certain reasons why he Bbould not bo expected to take out a butcher's slaughter license. The Clerk was instructed to reply that the provisions of the Slaughter Act must be strictly enforced. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £118 9a 2d were passed for payment, and the meeting ad« journed.
