TEMPERANCE DEMONSTRATION AND SPORTS AT CHRISTCHURCH.

CHBISTOnUBCH, April 26. A temperance demonstration wa3 held m Hagley Park to-day m connection with the Canterbury Band of Hope Union. About 15(50 children were present, and with other visitors the gathering m tho pork amounted to about 4000 persons. The Christchurch Bicycle Club held races at Lancaster Park, and here also tho Ponoke (Wellington) and Merirnlo (Christchurch) football teams strove for the mastery, with the result that the visitors scored a victory by seven points to nil. ' Tho weather has been dull all day, but fortunately for holiday-niakors the rain held off.
