This morning Mr Loughrey, solicitor, applied at the Lyttelton Orphanage for admission on behalf of Mr Brownlie, the master appointed by the Charitable Aid Board. Mr Kitchey, the present master, refused to admit him as he intends to remnin till the expiration of the three months' notice. The Board offer him three months' salary instead, which he ■will not accept. He is backed up by public feeling, especially m Lyttelton. In giving judgment m charges against Lawrence White for breaches of order and prison discipline, Mr Hutchison, J.P., said that the case was surrounded with legal anomalies. The hulk at tho Heads was a gaol, but had no officers, and prisoners appeared to be removed from Dunedin to tho hulk without necessary lawful warrant. As Port Chalmers waß tho nearest Resident Magistrate'a Court to the hulk, the Dunedin Court had no jusisdiction. The gaoler pointed out that the prisoner had not been sent for trial from tho Heads, but from Dunedin, but two Justices held that as thooffenco was committed at the Heads, it must be tried at Port Chalmers.

The Postmaster at Queenstown and a shepherd left for Martin's Bay about a month ago overland, and it has been ascertained that they have not arrived. A search party is being organised nt Queenstown.
