The deficiency due by Mr Holt to the Bank of New Zealand is stated to be about LII.OOO, which is covered by his private estate. His total liabilities are estimated at L 35.000. It is the intention of the Bank to commence a prosecution against him. His whereabouts are believed to be known. (Received 1.15 a.m., April 2nd.) Forty-three horaes have been accepted for the Sydney Cup. A PASSENGER DROWNED AT SEA. Hobart, April 1. The Union Company's "Ringarooma, which arrived from the Bluff, reports having encountered very severe weather on the voyage. Pour head of cattle on board died. A passenger named Musden, who came from Wellington, slipped from the gangway, falling overboard, and was drowned. (Received 7.30 p.m., April Ist.) Adelaide, April 1. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REVENUE. The quarterly returns published to-day give the total revenue for the past quarter as L 448.000, being a decrease of L 213.000 compared with the corresponding period last year. The railway revenue for the quarter shows a falling off of L 50.000. It is considered inevitable that there will be a large deficiency on the financial year. Melbourne, April 1. THE VICTORIAN REVENUE. The quarterly returns published today show the total revenue for the past three months to be L 1,780,000,, 780,000, being an increase on the ' corresponding quarter of last year of L 102.000. The Customs and railway revenue shows an increase of L 5 2,000 and L 38.000 respectively, while the revenue has decreased L 41.000.
