THE VOLUNTEERS.

» Yesterday morning the men were punctually on parade, and had an hour's drill beforo breakfast. Detachments under Quarter-master Sergeant. King and Sergeant Jackson noro employed m gun drill ; squad drill being carried out under Lieutenant Smithson, whilo the signallers li id a practice under Lieutenant Jackson. The Navals had squad drill under Lieutenant, Bcgg. In the evoning tho " fall m" was sounded at seven o'clock, and a detachment of tho Navnls was marched over to the Artillery ehed to make their maiden effort at gun drill. Lieutenant Smithson, of tho C Battery, acted as instructor, assisted by Lieutenant Beeg. A detachment of tho C Battery, under Sergeant Jackson, was told off to tho howitzer, and the remainder of tho men m camp wero formed as two guards, and practised m guard drill for two hours, under Major Hamcrsley and Lieutenant Jackson. Tho parado was dismissed about nino o'clock, and for tho remainder of tho time till " tattoo," the men gavo themselves up to amusements. Lieutenant Jackson was orderly officer of tho day, and Bombadior Hughes, orderly noncommissioned officer. To-day these duties will bo performed by Lieutenant Smithson, and acting Post Officer Hawkes. Thoro will bo tho usual parades at (! a.m. nnd 7 p.m., and at 9 o'clock a camp fire will be lighted. On Wednesday evening tho C Battery will parade m review order for inspection m gun drill by Lieut.-Oolonel Bailey. This will count as a Government parado.
