THE GERALDINE SCHOOL.
♦' The annual distribution of prizes to the children attending the Geraldino Public School took place at the schoolroom, Geraldine, yesterday afternoon. This event is always looked forward to with much interest by the scholars, and tends to create a very worthy spirit of emulation among them. At the hour appointed (3 o'clock) the little ones had nearly all assembled at the school, and had been duly arranged m their places by Mr Hughes, the Head Master, Miss Hamilton the mistress, and their many assistants. The number of visitors was not large and consisted principally of ladies who as usual evinced great interest m the proceedings. Among the gentlemen present we noticed Messrs Sherratt, Ward and Dunlop, members of the Committee. The Rev. Mr Barclay had been requested to distribute the prizes, and before doing so he addressed the children at length, pointing out how they should behave themselves at tho school, and so attend to their duties that they might be m a position to take full advantago of the opportunities afforded thorn. He complimented the Head Master and his staS of assistants on the efficiency of the school, and said it was one of the best m this school disluct. The scholars attending it had ever gained scholarships, and ho was E leased to tell them that at the examination eld last week, two, if not three scholars, had obtained scholarships. At tho conclusion of his address he distributed the prizes to the lucky winners, and after mutual congratulations, the proceedings terminated.
