(By Telegraph.) (Per s.s. Te Anau at the Bluff) (Special to the Melbourne "Age.") London, Jan. 27. The British fleet has been ordered to Piraeus. Jan. 28. The Daily Chronicle states that Mr Hennicker Heaton, M.P., a recent resident of New South Wales, is to be knighted. Jan. 29. The Irish National League has given an assurance to Mr Gladstono that it will do its utmost towards suppressing outrages m Ireland. Feb. 1. Earl Selborne has announced his intention to retire from public life. Tho Postmaster-General has advertised for tenders for a weekly or a fortnightly mail service between Great Britain and the Australian colonies. The proposed contract is to last for five years. Tenders are to be opened on the 30th April next. The European port of departure of tho mail steamer is left optional.
