Tho City Council mot to night to consider the proposals to reduce the official salaries 16 per cent, but the meeting was broken up without a formal adjournment, after a lively scene, m which some Councillors made poouliar charges against the Town Clerk. Hutchison was arrested at tho Bluff to-day on suspicion that he was leaving tho jurisdiction of the Court on a charge of fraudulent bankruptcy. ' A ploughman, employed by Charles Dean at Etal Creek, got into his master's bedroom by (he window, on Thursday evening, and severely assaulted him and his wifo by striking them on tho head with a claw hammer.
