LEVEL'S ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Levels Road Board was held yesterday. MEMDEBS PRESENT. Messrs Moody, Newton and Sims. The Clerk reported that Mr W. M. Sims had been dxily elected to represent the Otipua sub-division, and - Mr W. J. Newton the Point sub-division. Mr Moody was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. MINUTBS. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. AroiOGT. Mr Balfour apologised for not being able to attend. COBBESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and dealt with : — From the Chief Surveyor/agreeing to the suggestions to alter the -road line on reserve 1263. From Mr Thomas Jefcoate, calling attention to the state of the Otipua road ; also to the road leading to the river by his property. The' Overseer was instructed to call for tenders for shingling the latter. From the Property Tax Commissioner, asking that facilities be afforded to applicants for making the valuations by allowing them to inspect the rolls and maps — Granted. From the Town Clerk, m reference to the unsatisfactory state of the Town Belt. Resolved — "That the Chairman confer with the Mayor, on the subject." From the inhabitants of Buchanan's paddock, calling attention to the state of the roads m that neighborhood. The Overseer was directed to attend to the same; and also take steps to open the road at the back of his premises. ovebseee's bbpobt. The Overseer's report was read as follows: — . "Re gorse growing on river beds. — I have examined as far as I have been able the riverbeds, and I do not think that , it would be necessary to take any steps, as rabbits are not likely to become numerous anywhere m the district. " Mr Parr's application to clear out drain. — Owing to the snort time since last meeting, and an election taking place, I have not had time to report upon this, but have arranged with Mr Parr to meet him this week. " Mr Orbell's application for improvement on the Cliff 3 road is being attended to. I have Hot been able to report upon the other portion of the application, but will do bo during the month. " Mr El worthy's application at the Pareora Bridge will be attended to at once. "I am taking steps to protect tho road leading to the manse at Pleasant Point, as complained of by Colonel Eichbaum, but have not yet seen the ford on Butler's. I have made enquiries into the working of the new impounding ordinance, and I do not think it would be wise to interfere until it has had a fair trial. Mistakes were made at the first onset by the poundkeeper, throngh not being thoroughly acquainted with tho same, but that has been remedied. "Petition from residents m. College Road. — I am not prepared to-day to state what is beßt to be done with this road, but will do so during the month. "The contracts m hand are being satisfactorily proceeded with. The enormous amount of grain carting afe the present time has cut up the roads very much. I have had them attended to as well as I could, but at present very little good can be done. As soon as the carting is over I have made arrangements to have the ruts filled m. There are about 100 chains of the Upper Pareora road that require metalling — from" Air Russell's gate to" Mr Olivers' corner. The cost will be about — . The Totara and Dougald Blue's road will require re-Bhingling m many places before next year." ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £147 were passed and ordered to be paid. The meeting then adjourned till the second Tuesday m Juno.
