Mr Fish, m a letter to the Chamber of Commerce, says that the investigations of tho Telephone Committee have resulted co far m proving the actual cost of lha instruments to Government to be £14, and an annual charge of £7 10s per instrument leaves an ample margin, after allowing for wear and trar. Under the present arrangement Government can all but pay off, m ono jear, the whole coit of the instruments. At the Supreme Court to-day, Judge Williams gave judgment m the appeal case of the Harbor Board r. Cates. In this caso the Court below had decided that the Board wore liable to damages done to a vessel by another vessel which was m charge of their pilot, but Hit Honor reversed tbe decision, holding that the Harbor Board had a duty to supply a pilot Bervico to the satisfaction of tbe Crown, and that no contract for pilotage existed between the Board and the vessel, so that the Board's pilot being m charge of a vessel did not render tbe Board liable for damages which she might do while m his charge.- In another case, Mollison v. Victoria Insurance Company, His Honor delivered judgment m favor of defendants. The casa was that Mollison sold goods to one Dunlop, of loveroirgill, on bills. These goods were insured m the Victoria Company by Mollison, but no trausfer was asked for when the goods were sold (o Dunlop. The goods wero burnt before the bills became due, and Mollison then claimed tho insurance from tho Company, but the Judge ruled that even if Mollison had an insurable interest m the goods whilst the bills wera running, it was not covered by the polioy m question, and ho expressed the opinion that at the time of the fire, Mollison had not such an insurable interest.
