They hare to report a good enquiry for both draughts and saddle horses, and a considerable competition was experienced to-day for some of the beat sorts. Their yards were crowded out, the attendance being large throughout the whole of the sale, which lasted without intermission from eleven m the forenoon till five o'clock m the evening, and nearly one-half of the number entered found buyers at satisfactory prices. Their principal entry of light horses was a lot of fourteen good hacks and harness horses, the property of Mr L. Macpherson, Hakateramea Station. These found purchasers at from Ll4 10s to L3l, the lot averaging L2l. A number of other light horses found buyers at from LlO to L 25. Mr M. Wightman bronght m for sale a splendid lot of draught mares and geldings, some of which were really very good. L4O was obtained for a very good gelding ; L 37 for another, and nearly two-thirds of his lot were sold at prices somewhat under thexo quotations. On account of several other owners they sold a number at from L 26 to L 35 for fair good dra"~«hta, and from LlB to 1.22 for inferior sorts. Sheep — There Is a good demand for all kinds of store sheep, both merinos and crogg-breds, and whore the Bheep aro good high values are given. They have sold several Tots at thoir country sales, viz., 301 merino ewes at 4s ; 540 f&erino ewes at 4s 6d, and privately they have f&ced 1200 merino wethers, 1100 merino and 300 cross-breds, all at satisfactory prices. Fat sheep are m fair demand, and an fetching good prices. At their usual monthly sale at Studholme Junction last Monday, they sold on acconnt of Mr Studholme, 630 merino wethers at 8b 9d, 300 cross-bred wethers at 12s 9d. On account of another owner, 300 cross-bred ewes at 11s Cd, AfrfineKwtcr last Wednesday a small lot of 200 half-bred ewes were placed at 10s 3d. CattW*fltare cattle are still difficult to place at the&values, and there is but little doawvD'l at present. At Studholmo Junction yards they sold, on acconnt of Mr L. Price, a *<X of 37 young steers, heifers and oalvos, the fotmer at 52s Cd, and the calves at 17s (id. Oriacconnt of another ownor they placed a mcaU line of steers and bettors af from X 2 td LB2e. The ontrias were largo and varied, but owing to the good competition prevailing, all lots wore clearod at tno following figures : — Derwont potatoes, 50s to 60s per ton, pef sack, 5s ; fowl wheat, 28 to 2s 9d per bnshel ; per sack, 10s ; onions, lid per lb ; feed oats, Is 6d to 2s per bushel, according to quality ; flour, LlO 10s per ton ; per 501bs, 5s 6d ; fresh butter, 8d to Is per lb ; bacon pork, 4d to 4fcd ; hams and baoon, (the entry was of a very inferior description), 4d to 5d per lb ; apples, 7s per case ; pears (cooking), 5s ; turkeys, 6s to 10s por pair ; (jeese, 6s per pair ; fowls, 2s to 2s 6d por couple ; hares, 2s per pair ; wild duoks, 2s por pair ; pnkakis, 2s per pair ; box tea, 10s to 12s per box. A quantity of furniture and I other sundries were quitted easily. Coals— i They sold during the week the whole oargo, 640 tons, ex Salado, from Newcastle, New South Wales, at a figure equal to owners instructions. Messrs Southan and Stubbs report for the week ending to-day as follows: — The attendance at their weekly market and sale was good, and biddings consequently spirited. Tho entries were of fair average. Sales were effected of prime Derwent pototoes at 5s to 6s ; fowl wheat, 8s to lls per saok ; seconds barley, 8s per saok ; good feed oats, Is lOd to 2s ; onions, 8s 6d por owt j eggs, Is 6d per per dozen ; fowls, 2s to 3s per pair ; ducks, 3s 6d to 4s per pair ; geese, 4s 6d each ; bran, L 3 10s per ton ; sharps, L 4 ss ; baoon, 6d to 7d per lb ; hams, 7s to 8d per lb. A sundry lot of good furniture was quitted at fair remunerative rates.
