TIMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last, evening. HEMBEBS PRESENT. Bis Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Gibaon,|Shepherd,Cullrnann, Gabite3, Filmcr, Sherratt, Greenup, Jackson, and Eore. MINOTE3. The minutes of Ihe last ordinary and special meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESrONDEHCS. Correspondence was read from Henry Huscoe, giving a list of ex-members of the late Fire Brigade who hud properly m their possession which hud been purchased by tho Sick ond Accident Fund. From ihe Colonial Secretary, m reply to a communication from tho Borough Council complaining that certain Beotions m the town of limaru, reserved by Hia Excellency tho Governor for municipal purposes, wero lying wholly unproductive m coneequonce of the delay m the issue of Crown grants for thorn. Iho reply stated that os tho reserves had been vested m the Corporation, there was nothing to prevent their boing ot once deilt with, and that the Crowu grants would follow m due course. From Robert Forgnn, regretting his having exceeded his contract timo m cutting trenches for culvert purposes. It was determined that the mntter should be considered at, the completion of Iho work. From C. H. Churchill, of Parcoro, stating that no right-of-way exist.d to his proporty, No. 27743, except tlmn by access to the waterrace reservo Ho thought that the Government should give him a road. No action was tnken m the matter. From W. Ziesler, m reply to a letter from tho Council, saying he had no objection to the proposed excavation of liib section No. 319. From Mr H. J. H. Elliott, of the Crown Lands Department, m reply to a letter from the Council dated 12th March re transferring theTimaruand Pareora water rcscrvo to the Borough. The communication stated that so soon ne certain points which wero under consideration had been settled, the question would bo submitted to the Minister of Lands. His Worahii) the Mayor read a letter from Councillor Gibson, protesting against a resolution which had bei'n moved by Councillor Cullminn, seconded by Councillor Grernup, and carried, at a previous meeting of tho Council, having rrferenco to tho town levels. Tho Mayor thought it would bo bettor if Councillor Gibson wero to withdraw tho protest. Councillor Jackfon moved, ond Councillor Kojs seconded — " That tho protest entered by Councillor Gibson bo expunged from tho miuutef," which was carried. THE NEW PIBB BBIOVDK. A letter was read from Mr T. Amos enclosing a list of names of thoßO who had expressed m writing to him their willingnose to act with him m the formation and working of a new Fire Brigade. Councillor Cullmnun seconded the resolution, and entirely endorsed the remarks that bad fallen from tho mover. Councillor Jackeon moved as an amendment — " That the application for water supply be referred to tho Water Works Committoo to report upon." Thoy would need all tho assistance thoy could got, and should, if possible, obtain the support of those outside tho > Borough. Councillor Greenup seconded the amond--1 ment. PAINTING TOWN HALL. On the motion of Councillor Gibson, seconded by Councillor Shepherd, tho Works Committee were empowered to havo the Council building painted. TENDEKS.
