It rtined all tho previous night and up to early forenoon, when tho woataor held up slightly. At noon a heavy shower came down, which detained many peopb from taking the train to Elderslie. At 1 o'clock it cleared up for tho rost of tho dny. Notwithstanding these adverse circumstances, 3000 persons wero present, and the Graud Stand was loon completely crowde I with visitors, but fen boing ladies. Tho iraproromonts at the Grand Stand and saddling paddock gave great sutisfuotion. The coutso was very heavy through tho rain. A totalisator was on the ground, and fairly pa'ronised, the police not interfering with the person who man'nged it. Maiden Plate, of 80sovs j weight for age ; li mile. Maid of Honor and Konilworth mado tho running from the first, tho favorite holding back till entering tho straight, when ho on mo through and won by a length, Kenil worth being a good second, and Maid of Honor a moderate third. Betting : 6 to 4 Loch Lomond, 5 to 4 Lono Hand. 2 to 1 Anont. ; L)ch Lomond took the lead from the start, with Lono Hind m clnso companionship, changing plavcs occasionally. All cleared the hurdles without a fault. Coming into the straight Lono Hand camo into the competition, and was only a length behind on coming to tho last hurdle, which Loch I-o-mond struck, and his rider, Mclror, camo on bis neck, giving Lono Hand a chitnce to come up, and both flogged to tho post, and finished m a dead heat. Tho rider of Lono Hand prepared n protest against Loch Lomond on tho ground of jostling, but it was not presented, and Lono Hand retiring, Loch Lomond was left to walk over for first place.
