WASHDYKE.

A meeting of ratepayers was held iv the office of the New Zculaud Moat. Preserving Company, to deride as to whether the district should be brought, under tho provisions of the Education Ordinance. Mr 11. Bclfield (Ohairniiin of the Tinuim School Committee) attended on behalf of the Board to explain tho Ordinance. Mr J. Mncintosh win voted to the chair nnd introduced Mrßelfiold to the meeting. The hitter gentleinun then fully explained to the rutepnyers the provisions of tho Ordinance and the responsibilities they would incur by adopting it. Mr Dmve proposed, Mr Nicholson seconded, and it was unanimously r«aolred: " That tho district be formed into an educational district under tho Ordinance." Mr Beltield eiiid the next thing for the meeting to decide whs aa to tho number of the committee, which must not consist of not less than three nor more than niue persons. Mr Jones proposed Mr Nicholson seconded and it was resolved— " That tho number of eoininit.teemonbe five. Mr Nicholson proposed, Mr Dunaford seconded, aud it was uimnimourtly resolved — " Tlmt the following gentlemen form tho first, committee: Messrs Macintosh, Dawe, McKinuon, Nicholson, nnd Kennedy. Messrs Kellund and Butler were appointed auditors. Mr Bel Geld said it only remained now for the chairman to forward the minutes of tho meeting to the Board, and for him and the committee to put matters right, nnd raise tho necessary one sixth of the cost of building se required by the Ordinance, the other fivesixths being contributed by the Board. H» would ulso warn them that, if they failed to raise the amount, the Superintendent had now the power to appoint a collector and levy a rate upon property. The Chuiritmu eaid that he did not apprehend much difficulty m raising funds. Ho stated that the New Zealand Most Preserving Company had promised a subscription of £25 a year, and had given a site gratuitously for the school. A subscription Hat wag then opened and about £20 promised at once. A vote of thanks to Mr Belfield for attending and ezpluiniug tho Ordinance, terminated the meeting.
