The Sir George Pollock, for Otago, m putting back to Deal on the night of February 16, during very thick weather, got ashore on the main m Margret's Bay, but was assisted off on the flood and anchored. She has since put back to the West India Docks. — Howe Neics. The Panama, New Zealand, and Australian IJoyal Mail Company's steamer Rakaia was launched on January 31 from Messrs Randolph, Elder and Co's building-yard at Fairfield. This vessel is intended for the new mail service between Panama and New Zealand. Her dimensions are— length, 265 feet ; beam 34 feet ; depth, 26 feet; tonnage 1504 tons B.M. The engines are 350-horse power, and are the builders' double cylinder principle. — Ibid On February 17, the scrrw steamer Mataura 1767 tons measurement, was launched at the Millwall ironworks. The steamer will be placed on the new route to Australia and New Zealand via Panama.and has been constructed for the Royal Mail Company, formed to establish a line of packets on each side of the Isthmus. The Mataura ia 285 feet long between the perpendiculars, has a breadth of beam of 35J feet, and is 26 8-12 feet deep. She will be propelled by triple screw engines, of 350 nominal horse power, and is intended to carry a large quantity of fuel and cargo at a high rate of speed.
