PRESENTATION TO THE REV. GEO. BARCLAY.
On Thursday, a bag was presented to the Rev. George Barclay, of this town, containing a beautiful silk preaching gown, a cassock, and bands, m value over £20. The presentation was accompanied by the following note : —
" The ladies of Mr. Barclay's congregation beg his acceptance of the accompanying gown, cassock, and bands. They hope they may long enjoy the privilege of his ministration amongst them, and that he may be rewarded here by seeing God's blessing follow his labours."
The follow reply has been returned by Mr. Barclay : — " Ladies, — Will you permit me most sincerely to thank you for the presentation just made me. Being quite unanticipated, it has given me, of course, no little surprise. It is indeed a valuable presentation — indicating m no slight degree your liberality and kindness. It is a presentation which I cannot receive without being moved to liveliest gratitude towards those who have made it. I know not that I deserve this kindness at your hands, indeed I feel I do not ) and hence its acceptance leaves on me, I confess, a sense of obligation hovering on the painfid. With feelings of deepest thankfulness, however, I accept the garments you have presented, and I hope that while spared to minister m them, 1 may speak and you may hear the words of life, and all of us be clothed with the garments of salvation — the robes of righteousness. Yours most sincerely and gratefully, George Barclay. Timaru, March Ist, ISGG.
