Election Notices. mO THE ELECTORS OP THE PROVINCE OF CANTERBURY. Gextlemex, — I have tlie honour to inform you that it is my intention to offer myself at the ensuing election ns a candidate for the oitice of Superintendent of this province. I give this early notice, m the hope that you may be induced to abstain from giving' pledges to any candidate until you have heard the views "of each upon the important questions now discussed as matters of general and local policy. At an early date 1 will do myself the honour of requesting 1 vonr attendance at Christcliuich, Timaru, Lyttelton, Kaiapoi, Akaroa, and llokirika, for the purpose oi giving- you, m detail, my views upon those questions. I have the honor to be, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, W. T. L. TRAVERS. 1, Stone T>iiUilii)»'s, Cliristehurch, = ■ Canterbury, Suw Zealand, November 7, 1800. nn o the electors o f WAIMATE. Gentlemen, — My engagements m the North have prevented me from visiting you at present, but as I intend to address the Electors m this part of the country ag"ain, Ijefore the Election, I will then make arrangements for meeting" you. I trust that, m the meantime, you will favour me by withholding any pledges to the other candidates. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, W. T. L. TRAVERS. Timaru, January 10, 18GG. mO THE ELECTORS OF THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT. Gentlemen, — Some of the supporters of my opponents have, (as I am informed) stated, that if I were elected, I should not be able to obtain an Executive. Upon what ground they say this, I am at a loss to understand. I have been confidential legal adviser to a large number of the leading men of this Province, for some 3'ears, and I do not apprehend that any gentleman amongst them would object to work with me m carrying out a great policy for this country, unless he differed with me m regard to that policy. I have every reason to believe that I should have no difficulty m securing the assistance and advice of thoroughly honourable and able men. It is also said, that to support me would ensure the return of Mr. Lance. This is a fallacy. I assure you that Mr. Lance has but little prospect of success, and that the real contest will be between Mr. Moorhouse and myself. This is well known m the North, although the whole of the Press there affect to ignore me ; a sorry " ruse" which they will be unable to continue much longer. They will at least be compelled to discuss my policy, let them say what they like about me, for I intend, on my return to Christchurch, to bring it prominently before tlie public, and it concerns many of the supports both of Mr. Moorhouse and Mr. Lance, far too much to be passed over m silence. I trust you will place no reliance on these absurd reports, notwithstanding the apparent confident assertions of those who are interested m damaging- my prospects of success. I am, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, W. T. L. TRAVERS. Timaru, January 16, 1866.
