Mr 0. A Field, raissioner to tlio north of Auckland gtimdiggers, will conduct tho services at the Primitive Methodist Church on Suuday. Mr Field was tho first Christian worker to pay exclusive attention to the gunidiggere, being sent out by the Auckland Primitive Methodist churches His periodical visits, and the literature which he has distributed have ken very much appreciated. Interesting services are anticipated.
The anniversary services of the Wesley an Church are to beheld to-morrow, when tho Rov. J. Serpell, the now pastor, will oliiciato Three services arc to be held— namely, morning at 11 o'clock, afternoon at II o'clock, and evening at 0.30 o'clock. The choir and orchestra, under the efficient leadership of Mr ,T. P.Williams, will render anthems, and altogether it is anticipated that the occasion will be both profitable and enjoyable in every way.
The latest shady business that has comc to the surface is in connection with a trotting meeting recently run off at Dunedin. The two principal events were won by a horse called iNcnj which, it is alleged, is an animal not long over from Sydney, and that "Nca" is an alias. In the meantime tho D.J.C. is withholding payment of the slakes, and it is satisfactory to read that "the ,'stewards will themselves institute a thorough enquiry info the bona iides of Nca." This is a resolution which, no doubt, will receive strong approval at the hands of Messrs Andersen, Pykc, White, and other local champions of turf purity, who will bo too glad to know that not only a newspaper, but also a loading ( racing organisation, lias the con rage to sift out crooked racing transactions.—Gore " Standard."
