THAMES SCHOOL OF MINES.

Tub ordinary meeting of the Thames School of Mines Committee was held lastevening, there being present—Mr 3? McGowan, President, in the chair, Messrs Watson, Smith, Hansen, Clark, Whitaker, aud Baker. The minutes of the previous meeting wore road and confirmed, and the outward and inward correspondence read and dealt with. Amongst the correspondence was an application to Government for the £120 granted towards tho erection of the Cassell plant. Tho Secretary notified ; the Committee that the contractors, Messrs A. aud G. Pries, had completed their work to the entire satisfaction of ' tho Cassell Company, as the following *j vory- flattering letter would show: I " During ray recent visit to the Thames j I examined tho plant recently erected at your School of Mines, and am very j ploased with it; tho general design and j manufacture »ojil. Mr Park has i succeeded iu designig a plant at onca compact, ueat, and jet complete,

the contractors have done their work well. I have instructed our head office in Glasgow that we bliuH require no tnoro men from Home, as we anticipate thatj your School will be enabled to supply all | operators required for our own works and for most of our licenses. Wo are pleased indeed with the work being done at Waihi by one of the men trained aft your School.—Yours, &c., Alfred James, general manager, N.Z." The committee took tlio plant over from the contractors, and passed for payment the accounts for its erection. The committee /or revising- the rules brought up thoir report, and submitted the amended rnles for the consideration of tho committee. The rules aro on the lines of those of tho Ballarat and Bendigo Schools of Mines.
