AN ESCAPEE.

Sydney, December 1. A meeting of the Extradition Court was; held yesterday under the presidency of the Governor. The Crown Solicitor was. present in the interests of the Crown.A French escapee from New Caledonia, named Francois Fournier, was brought before the Court under warrant, in terms : of the Extradition Act of 1870. It was stated that the escapee had been tried at Noumea for murder in April, 1891, and was sentenced to 10 years' hard labour and police surveillance for life. He escaped in October, 1892. The defence I was that the man before the Court was not the person named in the warrant. A warder from .New Caledonia, however, appeared and identified accused. The Court directed that Fournier -should betaken to Darlinghursfc Gaol and kept; there for a period of :14.days, During this time he will be entitled to apply for a writ of habeas corpus, but failing this being done he will be returned to NewCaledonia,
