THE MELBOURNE EXHIBITION.
Report of N-Z- Commissioners.

Wellington, last night. At. a meeting of Iho Commissioners of tho Melbourne inhibition, Sir J. Hector presided. Tho total cost of the New Z n alahd court has been about £300 iu excess of llio vote of £5000, and that of tho es.imated expenditure approved of by the Commission in.March last has been cloßoly adhoi'od to notwithstanding that a space of 23,000 feet was occupied instead cf only 10,000 as was at that time contemplated. Tho ohief
items in which the extra expense had been incurred were freight and insurance, and this was due to the bulk of exhibits sent from the colony being vory largely in ex cess of what the Commission had been led to expect, - .The.schedule of awards showed that New Zealand exhibitois had gained 6 special, 127 first, 106 second, 54 third, 11 fourth, and 30 honorable mentions, or a total of
334 prizes. The Esooutive Commissioners submitted a draft report of llie Commission to His Kxcellency tho Governor which is in an advanced stale of preparation.
They also reported that by arrangement witl) the Government 180 cases of exhibits hud been despatched from Melbourne on the 28th Ecbruary to (ho Paris Exhibition, 61 to iho Dunedin Exhibition, and 200 to the various Exhibition, and that the remainder will ail bo shipped by stoamor leaving Melbourne on 2nd pros.
