At the Magistrate's Gome this morning Julia Marin Thorpe was churgod with unlawfully using an instriin.ent on Flora Brown'(uow Mrs Nash), in December, 1.887, ..for the pnrpose of effecting amis* carriage! At" Iho outset (here wero several warm passages between, (ho Bench of Justices and Mr JcJlicoe, couusel for Mrs Thorpe, owing to the frequent interruptions of Mr Jullicoe. Inspector Thouip ton. who conducted the proseeutiun, also complainod of the offensive conduct of the accused's counsel, Mrs Nash refused to answer any questions tending lo criminatd herself, and Iho only evidmco ndduoeo was that »: Mrs Walker, who accoaipnniod Mrs Nusli lo the residence of Mrs Thorpe. This eviriense was of lyi iinimjiortant nature, and [inspector Thompson seeing that the cisc whs buui't with difficulties, said ho would proceed no l'urllior, and the case was dismissed. Mr Jellicou s.id thai if un enquiry wero hold into the reasons for the prosocution, thty would not bo creditable to those who undertook it, This called forth a.hot retort fiom Inspector Thompson, who was supported hy th« Bench.
