(BY CABLE—PKESS ASSOOIAIIOiV,) London, February 6. The South Australian loan lias, as was feared, proved a failure, only £505,370 having baeu subscribed, at an average of £100 4s sd. The balance has been left open at par. The syndicateb held back, and refrained from tendering. New Zealand Shipping Co .'s shares are £3; Shaw Saville and Co:, £8; Union 5.5.C0..£13. ■ . Later. The Standard referring to the failure of the South Australian loan pays that the colony is too ambitious, and that_ it had already borrowed too cheaply for its own good. The article goes on to say that it was ridicnlous that a raw, and mostly unoccupied country, with a population only equal to that of Leeds, should expect to borrow three and half millions.
