CRICKET.

The season was opened on Saturday on a very fair wicket, prepared by Messrs Hoiles and Bosworth, the lesseess of tlic ground, and the indefatigable lion, see. of the T.C.C. The Naval band enlivened the proceedings by some nice dance music. Sides wero chosen by Gellion and Bull. The former won the toss, and sent his side in. Hargreaves, Crawford, Steadraan, and Brassey played well for their runs. For the other side, Eeece made five, when he was badly run out. I think this gentleman will prove an acquisition to our cricketers, but I should like to see more of him. He can evidently field, and has a vory pretty cut. Spencer, Paul, and Eobinson also helped their side by making a few runs. The game resulted in a draw, as there was not time to finish. Ooromandel intend sending a team on the BOth of next month, so players should practice to get in form. There is also a possibility of an Auckland team coming about the 9 th.
