BLOCK 5a INVESTIGATION.

Tins Warden continued his inquiry into the Block 5a affair on Saturday. Thero was only ono claimant put in an appearanco.

James Garvey,- afler pointing out the position of his residcnco site, stated: I was holder of a miner's right in 18G8, and continually since. I made au application for a residcnco silo first about tho latter end of May, ISGB, but it was not received. 1 was put off to another tiuio, I was then in occupation of a site which I had pegged out uuder miner's right, and have been in _ occupation ever since. I occupied the silo for four years before I knew thero was any claimaut for it. Afior that I found Graham claimed rent, audho sent me a notico to tako out a lease or pay rent. Beforo I paid tho rent I went with McGregor and Kerr to tho Superintendent, (Mr Williamson), and ho told us ho would put tho tiling right if possible. Mr Graham scut another notice, as I did not pay at that time, and threatened to sue. This was about two years ago. I wailed on tho Superintendent tho second time, and asked his opinion. 11 o said ho could not prevent Mr Graham from ejecting them, but that ho would try and make them right in tho way of compensation, so I had to tako out a leaso at £4 per year. I liavo paid £8 for two years' rent.

James Connell, the mau who purchased Alexander Hanlon's allotment, was also examined, and there being no other claimants present, the inquiry was adjourned until Wednesday next.
