GIFT TO PLUNKET SOCIETY. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Oct. 16. The following letter from Mr. T. D. Burnett, M.P., for Temuka was read at the Plunkot Society’s meeting:— “Beginning from mid-December next, I propose paying to the Plunket Society’s secretary at each of the subcentres at Temuka, Geraldine, Pairlie, Pleasant Point, and Mayfield. £lO every three months, conditionally on each of the centre® contributing 26 per cent of their revenue towards the upkeep and running expenses of the society s cat or ca-'s running between Tiraaru and Mayfield, and back to Fairlie. Mr. Burnett offers this financial help for two years, the amount of his .gift being £2OO a year. COUNTRY POST OFFICE BURNED. THAMES, Oct. 16. The post office and store at Hikuai, near Tairua, were totally destroyed by fire last night. Nothing was saved. The insurances are not available.
