Mr. G. Hogben, aged 66, ex-Direc-tor of Education, died this morning. He had been ill for some time.
Owing to tne preparations for the Prince’s visit there will be no practice for the junior hand this week. Captain B. Irwin, of the ferry steamer Mararoa, is at present relieving Captain Bruce in the command of the coastal steamer Kini. Mr. Arthur Way, secretary of the Marton Racing Club and the Eangitikei Hunt Club, is on a visit to New Plymouth.
Wellington reports the death, of Hr. Leonard Stowe, late Clerk of Parliaments, who retired last year after 54 years of Parliamentary service. The death is reported in Wellington of Dr. Kingston Fyffe, following an operation for gall stones, He was wounded twice in the war. '■He took a great interest in music and was for 20 years organist at St. Peter’s Church. Mr. E. P. Sandford, of the Staff of the Christchurch Weekly Press, has been appointed official photographer, and will accompany the Royal Party through New Zealand. Mr. Sandford is a son of Major P. W. Sandford, of New Plymouth.
A Press messagd received from Auckland this morning states that “Mrs. Annie E. lleldt, aged 63, collapsed in the Hevonport MetUodist Church on Sunday. She was carried on to the lawn and died in her husband’s arms.” The late Mrs. Lleldt was well known in New Plymouth, where she had many friends who will sincerely regret to hear of her death. Her husband carried on a furnishing business hero for many years, selling out to the' Red Post Furnishing Company nine or ten years ago, and the family then went to reside in Auckland.
