MOTOR ACCIDENT.
BELL BLOCK OCCURRENCE. DRIVER- OF CAR DIES. William Julius Gustave Eichstaedt, of York Road, who was injured on Saturday by the overturning of Ins car near Bell Block, died at the New Plymouth Hospital on Sunday afternoon. His age was 62 years and ho leaves a- wife and family. ' An inquest is to be held A statement made to the police by the wife of the deceased man is to the following effect. Mr. Eichstaedt left bis homo about 10.30 a.m. with his wife and four children. Near Lepporton a. car driven by Mr. H. B. Lcppor and proceeding in tho same direction was passed. Some distance further on Mr. Lepper’s car passed the other car again. When approaching the bend at the top of the deep gully near tho Bell Block "hall, Mr. Eichstaedt was about to pass Mr. Lepper’s car again. He blew his horn and tho other car- turned to the loft hand side of the road. When the cars were about a length apart, Mrs. Eichstaedt says, the foremost car turned to the centre of tho road and, to avoid a collision her husband turned to tho left behind it and ran into a hollow on the river side of the bend at tho top of the hill. The car turned over on top of her husband an§- herself. Passersby quickly rendered assistance. Mr. Eichstaedt complained of his back having been injured ( and was taken to the hospital in the ambulance when it had beer, summoned. Mrs. Eichstaedt received bruises about the face and body and the children also woro bruised.
