INFLUENZA.

CASES IN AUCKLAND DISTRICT,

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 25. “There is a pretty widespread, epidemic of influenza in the North, and we have accordingly decided to close the schools in Wliangarci, Bay of Islands, and llokianga districts tor the next week,” stated Dr Makgill, district health officer, to-day. “I - can say nothing about numbers, but all tile doctors 'in the districts named are notifying cases freely. There are one or two serious cases, but no more than arise in the ordinary course of mild influenza.” Referring to influenza among the Maoris at the Rotorua camp. Dr. Makgili stated the cases were all very mild, more like simple colds. They scarcely warranted being diagnosed as influenza. Thirty-seven cases of influenza, only one being severe, were reported in the Auckland health district during the 24 hours ended at noon to-day.
