MINING ACCIDENT.
EVIDENCE AGAINST INSPECTOR. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, Feb. 24. The warden’s inquiry into an accident which, occurred in the Dominion Mine, Wakamarina, on December 14, and which resulted in the death of L. J. Humphries, was commenced m tho Blenheim Court. Tho Magistrate Bollings) sat as warden, the assessors being Messrs. Thomas Sullivan and M. Fagan. Mr. Downie, mine inspector, sought to show responsibility lay with tho mine manager, who should have insisted on proper timbering in the rise where the fatality occurred, or should have barred anyone from entering it. Counsel for tho mine manager contended his client had no authority to control the actions of Humphries, who was practically the owner of the mine. The w'ardeu said the question was, whether there was sufficient evidence to justify cancellation of tho mine manager’s' certificate. The inquiry deferred its decision ponding a visit to tho mine.
